Headteacher's Welcome
Sir Roger Manwood’s School is a mixed grammar school for students aged 11-18. The school assumed Grant Maintained status in 1992, in 1999 became a Foundation School and on 1st March 2011 was granted Academy Status. At the moment we have 915 students in total, 300 in the Sixth Form and with 55 boarders.
The school is set in particularly attractive grounds and has generally excellent facilities. In 1994 a new Science Block was opened and in 1995 the library was completely refurbished. In September 1997 the standard entry for the school was increased from 97 to 120 pupils and a new Technology Block was opened. In 1998 a second Computer Room was opened and in 1999 a third computer room was added. Also in 1999 we built an astro-turf pitch, a large multi-purpose hard play area and a new Sports Hall. In 2003 the Music Department was refurbished and extended and in September 2004 a new IT Resource Centre was opened. In 2008 the four older Science Laboratories and the Design Technology work-shop were totally refurbished and state-of-the-art equipment installed. The momentum to improve our facilities continues and this summer an ICT Suite was updated and a new classroom created.
The school underwent a very successful OfSTED inspection in November 2006. It concluded that “this is a good school with a number of outstanding features. It turns out confident, well-rounded young people who are exceptionally well equipped for future life. This is because of their excellent personal development and the high academic standards they achieve. Students and their parents strongly value the high quality of education that the school provides.”
Academic results are consistently of a very high standard. In 2011 59% of all A Level passes were at the top grades of A and B and 55% of all GCSE passes were at the top grades of A* and A. As a result we appeared prominently in the national league tables. The vast majority of our sixth formers go on to university, a number to Oxford and Cambridge each year.
As a selective school there is naturally an expectation that academic results will be of a high standard. The vast majority of our students stay on into the sixth form and then go on to university, a significant number to the top universities including Oxbridge. Stretching students to achieve their full academic potential is an important aspect of life at Manwood’s.
You are welcome to visit us, see what facilities we have to offer and find out all about our excellent record of achievement.
